Alistair is the Director of Business Development at Transforming Systems; a human systems company specialising in capturing and visualising real-time whole system information, with a specific focus on urgent care in the NHS. SHREWD helps operational teams and clinicians manage pressure across urgent care and provides patient facing solutions to help reduce waiting times.
Trained in lean service re-design, Alistair is an ex A&E General Manager and urgent care Commissioner with expertise in delivering large scale transformational programmes across whole systems. Alistair left the NHS in 2015 to join Transforming Systems and has been instrumental in the developing and executing of a go to market strategy for SHREWD. This uses real time data feeds to show a whole system view of pressure and in the first two years of going to market, now covering 15% of health economies in the NHS.
In partnership with encompass MCP, Alistair has worked with Transforming Systems to launch a patient facing app in December 2015, commissioned by CCGs. Co-designed by patients and by GPs, it shows the fastest place to access urgent care services for minor conditions. The app is free to the public and uses a simple visual interface, coupling real-time geo-location, traffic and travel information with current A&E and Urgent Treatment Centre waiting times.
Independent evaluation undertaken by both the University of Greenwich and the Behavioural Insights Team, has identified that since the introduction of the App, a statistically significant reduction in A&E attendances has been observed at peak times in East Kent.
As an NIA fellow, Alistair hopes to scale WaitLess across the NHS by testing more opportunities and finding more feedback across urban and rural communities. He is looking forward to working with, supporting and learning from other entrepreneurs in helping to diffuse innovative solutions across the NHS.
