Joseph Salem

Dr Joseph Salem is an ENT resident doctor and Medical Director at Oto Health, a UK-based digital therapeutics company focused on improving access to evidence-based care for people with tinnitus. His work sits at the intersection of clinical medicine, digital health, and health service innovation, with a particular focus on redesigning care pathways and supporting the integration of validated digital interventions within NHS services.

With over 20 peer-reviewed publications and presentations at national and international conferences, he has received awards for his contributions to tinnitus research and medical education. He played a central role in coordinating the DEFINE trial — the first randomised controlled trial comparing smartphone-delivered cognitive behavioural therapy with therapist-led tinnitus care — and has led NHS implementation initiatives aimed at improving access, reducing waiting times, and supporting more sustainable models of audiology and ENT care.

His work focuses on translating clinical evidence into scalable, real-world solutions aligned with NHS priorities, including prevention, self-management, and digitally enabled care, with the goal of improving outcomes and equity of access for patients with tinnitus across the UK.
