A children and young persons peer mentoring programme aiming to build community resilience to the impact of sickle cell disorder (SCD) through mentoring, peer-support, education and training and volunteering opportunities for young people aged 10-24 years. The programme also helps to improve young people’s knowledge and understanding of the condition; emotional/social wellbeing; understanding of where to turn for support; engagement with others with SCD; transition from paediatric to adult services and engagement with the sickle cell community in London and further afield. Whilst also furthering the understanding of SCD (and associated issues) amongst employers, schools/colleges, health professionals and mentees’ families.

My mentor has been so helpful to me, through working together and talking regularly with my mentor I have gained a better understanding of my condition. Working with my mentor has enabled me to ask questions about my condition and question how to deal with the impact on my life.”
