Pathpoint eDerma: Redesigning clinical pathways for better care
Find out how Pathpoint eDerma is helping teams deliver safer, more efficient, and more connected care and how the programme is supporting the innovation.
Already live in over 200 NHS sites, Pathpoint eDerma has supported more than 4 million patient pathways, helping teams deliver safer, more efficient, and more connected care. Further to this success, Open Medical, the organisation behind Pathpoint, was recently recognised by TIME as one of the World’s Top HealthTech Companies – a testament to the impact Pathpoint is making at scale.
What is Pathpoint eDerma and what problem does it solve?
Pathpoint eDerma is a cloud-native clinical pathway management platform that coordinates care across the entire patient journey – from first presentation through to recovery or long-term monitoring.
For clinicians, it replaces outdated tools and fragmented systems with a single digital pathway, enabling teams to deliver the right care at the right time. For patients, it means smoother experiences, fewer delays, and a clearer sense of progress through treatment. Already deployed in more than 200 NHS sites, Pathpoint has supported over 4 million patient pathways and is helping to drive a new standard for coordinated care.
What was your inspiration and motivation?
The spark for Pathpoint came from an unexpected moment, when an over-enthusiastic cleaner accidentally rubbed away a trauma whiteboard. It made clear just how fragile existing systems were, and how urgently clinicians needed better tools.
As a practicing clinician, Piyush had seen first-hand how many digital tools are not designed for real-world clinical workflows. Pathpoint was built through a clinical lens, ensuring that every feature supports frontline decision-making and patient experience.
“We realised there had to be a better way, technology built by clinicians, for clinicians, to deliver safer, smarter, and more compassionate care.”
Piyush Mahapatra, Director of Innovation, Open Medical
Why did you become a Fellow?
Being accepted into the NHS Innovation Accelerator (NIA) is a huge honour and responsibility. It signifies national recognition and offers a pathway to scale change across NHS services.
More than that, the fellowship connects us to a community of innovators, supports our growth in procurement, marketing, and implementation, and helps us accelerate adoption across health systems.
“Being an NIA fellow is an immense privilege. It gives us the opportunity, and the responsibility, to help drive real change across the NHS.”
Looking ahead
Pathpoint’s growth so far is just the beginning. The platform already supports millions of patient journeys, but the vision is far bigger: to manage over 100 million pathways globally within the next five years.
The ambition is to establish Pathpoint as a leading digital health institution, underpinning integrated regional care models that connect hospitals, community providers, and patients seamlessly.
“We’re building the digital backbone for a new era of integrated care with smarter systems, better outcomes, and improved experiences for every patient.”
