Dr Andy Davies is currently General Manager of Mackwell Health Ltd, and is leading the transition of this start-up business from R&D into a commercialisation phase. Andy graduated with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Reading, and spent 15 years in an industrial R&D environment with Cookson Group and General Electric. In 2005 he moved to the commercial team within GE Lighting, becoming their first European Product Manager for LED technology as the industry switched to Solid-State Lighting. He was the first Co-chair of the Zhaga Consortium for the standardisation of LED modules.
After serving 17 years at GE, Andy held senior roles in various companies within the lighting industry, including Mackwell Emergency Lighting, who he joined in 2020, becoming Commercial Director in 2021. During this period Mackwell Health was launched as a startup R&D business in the field of germicidal UV-C lighting, using its LED and electronics expertise to deliver innovative disinfection solutions for healthcare. Andy was appointed General Manager of this new business in 2023, and under his leadership Mackwell Health became the first company to achieve the full BS8628:2022 standard for an all solid-state LED UV-C disinfection chamber for semi-critical medical devices.
