John James, Chief Executive of the Sickle Cell Society (SCS), brings over three decades of NHS experience to his leadership role. Since 2013, John has propelled the SCS to the forefront of advocating for individuals affected by sickle cell disorder (SCD).
Recognised for his exceptional contributions, he was awarded an OBE in June 2018 for his healthcare endeavors. John is the driving force behind the Children and Young Persons Peer Mentoring Programme, aimed at bolstering community resilience against the impact of SCD among youth aged 10-24. Through mentoring, peer support, education, and training, the programme empowers youth to navigate challenges associated with the condition, fostering a sense of belonging within the sickle cell community. This initiative not only benefits mentees but also promotes awareness and understanding of SCD among stakeholders.
