A Digital Companion Transforming Maternity Care for South Asian Communities.
JanamApp, an innovative digital health solution, is revolutionising maternity care by providing culturally sensitive, linguistically appropriate, and evidence-based information for pregnant and postnatal South Asian communities. Available in English and six South Asian languages, JanamApp is designed to educate, empower, and reduce inequalities in maternal health.
With South Asian women facing higher risks of pregnancy-related complications and barriers to accessing healthcare, JanamApp bridges the gap by delivering tailored antenatal, postnatal, and mental health education in an accessible format. Developed through co-design with women, midwives, and healthcare professionals, the app ensures that critical health information is available in a way that respects cultural preferences and language needs.
“JanamApp is more than just an information tool—it’s a companion that supports women in making informed decisions about their maternity care,” said Prof Angie Doshani, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, and founder of JanamApp.”By addressing linguistic and cultural barriers, we are improving access to essential health information and empowering women to take control of their pregnancy journey.”
The app also supports the NHS’s Net Zero ambition by reducing the need for printed materials, unnecessary hospital visits, and interpreter time. Already adopted by several NHS trusts, JanamApp is making a tangible impact on maternity services across the UK.
