Timely referrals and clear communication are critical to delivering high-quality patient care, but traditional processes can often slow teams down. Bleepa®, a clinical communication platform developed by Feedback Medical, is helping to change that.

An independent evaluation of Bleepa’s implementation at Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust has revealed impressive outcomes:

  • Referral response times reduced by 87% — from 2.1 days to just 0.28 days
  • 32% of referrals were managed remotely without the need for a face-to-face patient review
  • £7.7 million projected system-wide savings over five years if scaled across the Integrated Care Board (ICB)
  • 88% of staff found Bleepa easy to use

Bleepa® doesn’t just speed up clinical communication, it supports new, efficient ways of working. By enabling clinicians to manage a significant number of referrals remotely, Bleepa helps free up valuable time and hospital resources, ultimately improving patient flow and experience.

The evaluation also showed strong economic benefits, highlighting Bleepa’s potential to deliver a positive benefit-cost ratio (BCR) and net present value (NPV) across both individual NHS Trusts and wider systems.

Dr Tom Oakley, CEO of Feedback Medical, shared some additional outcome data points from recent implementations. In new straight-to-diagnostic outpatient pathways, Bleepa® has supported a 90% diversion away from traditional outpatient appointments. These redesigned pathways have resulted in a 63% reduction in wait times compared to the standard 18-week referral-to-treatment (RTT) target, while also cutting average clinician time from a 30-minute outpatient appointment to just a 5–6 minute clinical review, significantly improving both capacity and patient access.

The redesigned pathway has really helped to improve communication and collaboration between clinicians. Bleepa has enabled us to review the results rapidly and have multi-disciplinary discussions virtually to expedite decision making. It is easy to refer patients onto the pathway and to discuss and respond to the GPs with our recommendations.”

Dr Mark Jackson, Consultant in Sleep and Respiratory Medicine at Queen Victoria Hospital

Dr Mark Jackson’s experience, along with many others, reflects a wider trend seen in the evaluation: Bleepa® supports greater flexibility for clinical teams, particularly in specialties like respiratory care where timely advice and image review are vital.

Bleepa’s success is a powerful reminder of how digital tools can drive real change, supporting NHS ambitions to deliver faster, safer and more sustainable care.
